On July 7, 2024, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) released the new version of the baby stroller standard EN 1888-3:2024, which is applicable to baby strollers for leisure sports activities. At present, the transition period is about to end, and the EU requires all member states to adopt the new version of the baby stroller national standard EN 1888-3:2024 before January 30, 2025, and abolish the old version of the standard that conflicts with it.
What’s changing?
A major safety update (EN 1888-3:2024) for baby strollers takes effect across Europe on January 30, 2025. This impacts all jogging or sport-style strollers sold in the EU.

Scope of application of EN 1888-3:2024
The release of EN 1888-3:2024 further expands the scope of application of the European baby stroller series standard. This standard applies to baby strollers with a load weight of no more than 15 kg or 22 kg, which are used for running, jogging or roller skating (excluding skating). The specific requirements are as follows:
Baby strollers now need to comply with the safety requirements of EN 1888-3:2024 and EN 1888-1:2018+A1:2022.
Baby strollers must also comply with both EN 1888-1:2018+A1:2022 and EN 1888-2:2018+A1:2022.
EN 1888-3:2024 needs to be used in conjunction with other EN 1888 series standards. EN 1888-3:2024 cannot be used alone.

Who needs to act?
Why this matters:
The rules aim to prevent accidents during active use (like running or hiking). Safer brakes and straps reduce rollaway or fall risks.
Stay compliant:
Currently, the old and new standards are in a transition period. Baby stroller manufacturers and traders exporting to the EU market should make plans in advance and deal with the market digestion cycle of products under the old version of the standard in a timely manner. From product research and development, design, production to logistics, they must timely match the requirements and implementation date of the new version of the standard to avoid losses.
